About Me

Joe Follansbee imageI’m a Seattle-based writer working on a series of speculative fiction novels with climate change themes under the title Carbon Run.

I’ve published several non-fiction books, including The Fyddeye Guide to America’s Maritime History, The Fyddeye Guide to America’s Lighthouses, Shipbuilders, Sea Captains, and Fishermen: The Story of the Schooner Wawona, Blowing Out the Stink: Life on a Lumber and Cod Schooner, 1897-1947, and three books on streaming media. I’m also published regularly in magazines, including Seattle magazine, Seattle Business, and the in-flight magazines of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Airlines.

I’ve also written a historical novel for young adults, Bet: Stowaway Daughter. These days, I’m focusing more on genre fiction, particularly science fiction and epic fantasy.

My background includes more than 10 years in the news business, including newspapers and public radio. I’ve also worked in the internet software industry and I’ve owned my own web development company. I work with content management systems and I’ve been known to code in PHP, Perl, ASP, javascript, and other scripting languages.

I live with my wife and family, which includes a chicken.
